Responsible AI Use

Twos is a calling app for real conversations between two people. AI plays a small, supporting role, not a participant. This page explains where AI shows up, what it sees, and what we keep.

Twos uses AI to help conversations get started, to translate between languages so two people who don't share one can still talk, and to remember what's interesting about you so we can keep finding you better matches over time.

We do not record your calls. We do not train AI models on your conversations. AI does not listen to your calls in the background.

If anything here is unclear, you can reach us at privacy@twos.net.

01Conversation prompts from Mira, only when you ask

If a conversation stalls, either person can tap a button to ask Mira for a prompt: a question or topic that fits the moment. When you tap, we send a short window of the live transcript along with a bit of context, and Mira sends back a single suggestion that appears on screen as text.

Mira does not speak in your calls. Mira does not listen continuously. Mira is only used the instant you ask.

02Live translation, when you speak different languages

If we detect that you and the other person speak different languages, translation turns on automatically. Each person sees captions in their own language as the other speaks.

We use a mix of engines to keep this fast and accurate. On iOS, much of this runs on your phone using Apple's built-in speech recognition and translation. When the on-device path isn't available, notably on Android, and for some language pairs, we fall back to cloud speech-to-text and translation. Captions appear as soon as we can produce them and are not retained.

03A short summary after the call

After a call ends, we generate a brief written summary so we can match you better in the future. The summary captures the kinds of things you talked about, your interests, the topics that came up, never contact details, addresses, employers, or identifying details about other people.

Sensitive categories, religion, politics, health, sexuality, income, age, and dating preferences, are explicitly filtered out and not extracted. Summaries are retained as part of your profile so we can keep finding you better matches over time.

04Mira calls, opt-in voice conversations

Separately from regular calls between two people, you can choose to have a one-on-one voice conversation with Mira. Mira calls are always opt-in and clearly labeled inside the app. They cover three kinds of things:

  • Onboarding, when you first sign up, Mira can guide you through a short profile interview
  • Profile enhancement, at any time, you can talk with Mira to add detail to your profile so we can find you better matches
  • Sending feedback, if you'd like to share feedback with the Twos team, Mira can capture it for you and pass it along

05What we keep, and what we don't

  • Audio from your calls is never recorded.
  • Transcript data from your calls is not stored. It is used in the moment, to render captions, and to give Mira context when you ask for a prompt, and that's it.
  • Post-call summaries and the interests we extract are retained as part of your profile. You can delete them at any time.
  • The voice and transcript of an opt-in Mira call are used only to update your profile, send your feedback to our team, or guide your onboarding, and are not retained beyond what's needed to do that.

06On your device vs. in the cloud

We do as much on your phone as we can.

  • On iOS, on-device: speech recognition for captions, translation between many language pairs, a small classifier that screens captions for harmful text, and face detection. None of this leaves your phone.
  • In the cloud: Mira's prompts, the post-call summary, Mira voice calls, and cloud speech-to-text and translation when the on-device path can't handle it (Android, and some language pairs on iOS).

07Who else processes your data

We use a small number of subprocessors. Each is contractually barred from using your data for any purpose other than serving Twos, and from training their own AI models on it.

  • OpenAI, generates Mira's on-demand prompts, the post-call summary, Mira voice calls, and cloud transcription and translation when the on-device path isn't used. We use OpenAI under a Zero Data Retention agreement: OpenAI does not store any of the content we send to it.
  • Anthropic, via AWS Bedrock, powers an automated safety classifier that screens caption text for harmful content. Data stays inside our AWS environment.
  • AWS Rekognition, automated safety screening of sampled video frames.
  • GetStream, runs the call itself.
  • Apple, on-device speech, translation, and vision on iOS; data stays on your device.

We do not sell your data, share call content with advertisers, or allow any of these providers to train models on it.

08We do not train AI on your conversations

Your calls are not used to train AI models.

09Safety

Because Twos connects strangers, an automated safety system screens sampled video frames and caption text for clear policy violations. A human reviews only material the automated system flags. Flagged evidence is kept for 30 days and then removed.

The safety system is used for safety enforcement only, not for personalization or model training.

10Your controls

  • Don't ask Mira for a prompt if you don't want one, Mira is silent until you tap.
  • Skip Mira voice calls, they are always opt-in.
  • Delete a call to remove its summary.
  • Edit or remove extracted interests in Settings → Profile.
  • Export your data in Settings → Privacy.
  • Delete your account in Settings → Privacy. Account deletion removes everything tied to you within 30 days.

11What Mira is not

Mira is a conversation helper, not a clinician, lawyer, or financial advisor. Its prompts and responses can miss context or be wrong. If you're in crisis or in danger, please contact local emergency services or a crisis line. Regional resources are available in the app under Help.

12Changes to this page

Material changes, anything that expands what data is collected, who it sees, or how it's used, will be announced in the app before they take effect.
